Mike & Bree | A Surprise Proposal
Flashback 2 weeks… I got a DM on the insta insta. Mike and I went to high school together, he had messaged me on instagram a while back about needing a photographer to shoot his surprise proposal. I had never shot one before and was super eager for the opportunity… plus him and his lady are like so presh together (isn’t it funny how you feel like you know people based on what you see on their social media) it’s ridic.
Anywho, he and I chatted on the phone about the initial “spot” and how all of the details were gunna go down. He told me that they had been dating for 5 years, and it has been a long time coming but he knew that he wanted me to capture this very important hour of his life. Luckily it all worked out and I was available, not only did I feel very honored & excited but I was SUPER nervous. Maybe that’s because I was going 90 down the freeway rushing to make it downtown on time after sitting in an hour of traffic (thanks KAABOO festival)… or maybe it’s because this is such a special time for these two people and I wanted it to all go smoothly. Regardless, a terrible day to wear black. So hot, so many nerves, sweat.
I asked him on the phone that morning, “How do you feel?”
He said, “I feel every emotion you could possibly imagine.”
Mike had planned a whole day for his sweet lady Bree. She arrived in San Diego where her best friend greeted her at the train station. The girls would take multiple stops along the way to the big question… including shopping, nails and drinks. At each stop Bree watched a video that Mike had made telling her all of the things he loves about her and the life he can’t wait to build together. She watched his final video at Waterfront Park where Mike and I hid in the shrubs behind her. Everyone cried, and I got to share in their first half hour of engaged life together.
OH, and then Mike had arranged an engagement celebration party at Ballast Point where all of their family + friends were waiting for them. THE cutest.
